Who's Mak?
Hi there!
I’m Makayla, but most people call me Mak. I am originally from the small town of Christiansburg, VA, where my days were filled with the excitement of random Walmart trips, playing outside barefoot, riding bikes around the neighborhood, and spending time with my dearest family and friends. Growing up I was always active and participated in just about anything I thought would be fun from softball, cheerleading, swim to singing in the choir, FFA, musicals, and theater. One thing throughout my younger years that stood out was my passion for sports. That passion quickly led me to Southern Virginia University, where I proudly played softball for the Knights. During my college years, I dove into the world of Psychology; later graduating with a Bachelor’s in Psychology with minors in Business and Family and Child Development. Throughout my years and experiences at SVU it opened my eyes to new perspectives and possibilities life had to offer.
Life took a scenic route post-college, and with a few wild turns I eventually found myself in Salt Lake City, Utah. Here, I wear quite a few hats that keep my days dynamic and fulfilling.
By day, I'm dedicated to shaping young minds as a Business & Marketing Teacher at a local middle school, where I teach grades seven through nine about the digital and business world. In my last two years as an educator it has become very apparent to me that teaching is something I am incredibly passionate about. I mean who doesn’t love being called “bruh” at least 12 times a day?
Beyond the classroom and the camera, my love for sports is still strong - I'm also a semi-professional women's tackle football player for the Utah Falconz, part of the Women's National Football Conference. Life's pretty full around here, but I wouldn't have it any other way!
If you're curious about the intersections of photography, education, and sports, I invite you to follow my blog, Mak Moments. It's a space where I share insights, experiences, and stories from my perfectly imperfect life. Join me on this journey, and let's explore the beautiful chaos together!
