Nature & Newborns at wheeler Farm

I recently had the absolute pleasure of photographing some beautiful newborns and their families at Wheeler Farm. This historic and picturesque location provided the perfect backdrop for capturing those precious moments. It's always a joy to work in such a serene and naturally beautiful setting, and I wanted to share the experience and some tips for anyone interested.

The Magic of Wheeler Farm

Wheeler Farm is a gem in our community, with its sprawling fields, charming barns, and tranquil ponds. Each corner of the farm offers a unique setting that can bring out the best in any photo shoot. For our newborn sessions, we often found ourselves gravitating towards the quieter, more secluded areas where the soft light filtered through the trees, creating a delicate glow that perfectly highlighted the tenderness of the families.

Tips for a Successful Newborn/Family Photoshoot

  1. Timing is Everything: Newborns are best photographed within the first two weeks of birth when they are most sleepy and can be easily posed. We scheduled our shoots in the evening when the light was soft, and the farm was fairly quiet.
  2. Comfort is Key: Both for the baby and the parents. We made sure to bring plenty of soft blankets and wraps to keep the newborns cozy. A well-fed and well-rested baby is much more cooperative!
  3. Natural Poses: While posed shots are beautiful, some of my favorite images are of the families simply interacting with their newborns. A mother's gentle kiss on her baby's forehead or a father's protective embrace can speak volumes.
  4. Bring Props: Wheeler Farm offers a rustic setting, so we incorporated vintage baskets, wooden crates, and soft, knitted blankets to enhance the natural charm of the environment. Just remember, less is more. The focus should always be on the baby and the family.
  5. Patience and Flexibility: Newborns are unpredictable. There were moments when we had to pause for feeding, changing, or simply comforting the baby. Being patient and going with the flow ensured that we captured genuine and heartfelt moments.
  6. Involve the Whole Family: Including siblings and even pets can make the session more dynamic and fun, adding a layer of life and movement to the photos.

A Few Memorable Moments

One of my favorite sessions, a friend of mine, Lexie and, her beautiful family. Their little boy, Braxton, was 7 weeks old and an absolute dream to photograph. We found a lovely spot near the pond where the light was just perfect. The neutral colors of their outfits matched so well and we had the most fun capturing their beautiful photos.

Another memorable shoot was with the Brusik family. They brought along their beautiful dog, Otis, who was incredibly well-behaved and added a heartwarming touch to the photos. We used a vintage basket as a prop, and seeing baby Ronin snuggled up inside with Otis gently giving him kisses was simply adorable.

Final Thoughts

Photographing newborns and their families at Wheeler Farm has been a truly rewarding experience. The natural beauty of the location, combined with the genuine love and joy of the families, made for some unforgettable moments. If you're considering a newborn photoshoot, I highly recommend Wheeler Farm. And remember, the most important thing is to capture the love and connection that you share as a family. Those are the moments that you'll cherish forever.

Until next time,

Mak
